Tooth Decay is a process that results in a cavity and it is also known as dental caries. It is an infection that causes destruction of the hard tissues of the enamel. The combination of bacteria and the food that we eat causes tooth decay. Plaque, a clear and sticky compound that contains bacteria and it is always forming in our gums and enamel. These bacteria make acid by feed on the sugars in the food that we normally eat. After eating, the acids attack our enamel for 25 minutes or more. This goes on for long period and the fashioned acids destroy our tooth enamel and the interior layer of the tooth that causes tooth decay. Many people think that only children get affected by cavities but this is a problem of adult too. Also, sugary food cravings in pregnant women can make them in danger to increase cavities. There is no specific symptom of tooth decay but when it takes place, toothache is the most common symptom. By doing regular dental check-up, your dentist can found tooth decay. If the tooth surface feels soft while checking with dental instrument, the dentist make sure that tooth decay is there. Another way is by doing X-ray.

Few tips to Prevent Tooth Decay

By maintaining few things, tooth decay can be easily prevented. First of all brush your enamel to fight against tooth decay. You should brush your enamel minimum two times in a day with toothpaste that contains fluoride. Other thing is floss daily to prevent cavities. Normally, when we eat foods, the food debris trapped in between our enamel. And if you do not remove them, it causes cavities. So you should floss everyday to remove this food debris from your enamel. You will find different types of flossers on the market and can use the one that is best for you. Have proper nourishment that is very important for your dental health. Try to have more nutritional snacks and reduce the amount of sugary food to prevent tooth decay. Also sometimes visit your dentist, and have sealants put in your enamel. Sealant is a coating that is normally used to the again enamel surface to prevent cavities. Other than these, use mouthrinse and chew a gum sometimes. By chewing gums, it helps to increase the flow of saliva in our mouth and prevent our enamel from cavities.

Tooth Decay Treatment

If your tooth decay is in the primary stage, then dentist normally apply a fluoride varnish to the area. It helps you to prevent further decay particularly if you reduce of having sugary food. But if the decay damaged the enamel, then dentist remove the decay and restore the tooth with a filling. But Root Canal Treatment is required if the nerve in the middle of your tooth get damaged. In root canal treatment, the dentists remove the nerve and restore the tooth with a crown. In case of the tooth is completely damaged and cannot be restored, then there is no way other than removing the tooth. So the dentist replaces the tooth with a partial denture.
